Through the Eyes of Love
Watercolor, by Carmen Thigpen
The painting shows Jesus sweating blood at the Mount of Olives as He faced His death on the cross. He has a furrowed brow, lines and drops of blood, but also a beautiful, youthful face. It is either or both because of His love toward us or the love I felt toward Him as I identified with His suffering. He is wearing a purple hood representing His royalty. There is darkness around Him and yet His light overcomes the darkness.
This watercolor painting is a result of time in prayer, seeking His direction. As I prayed He showed me this image of Him at the Mount of Olives. I started to paint and kept seeking His direction and the basic image was finished in a few hours. A few more strokes were added over the next few days. As more drops of blood were added to His image it gave the impression that it was bleeding. It was a truly spiritual experience painting the eyes of Him who created me. My prayer is that He is glorified in this piece.
