First Friday: Contemplative Compline Service

Join us on April 1 at 6:30 PM for a "sung" Compline service with the HTAC Choir.

Holy Week is fast approaching. To prepare our hearts, we are planning a special contemplative service on Friday, April 1 at 6:30 PM.

Our choir, along with singers from International Anglican Church (IAC), will lead a "sung" compline prayer service, similar to the one we offered at the beginning of Advent last year. With special music and a prayer-filled liturgy, we will set aside the evening on Friday, April 1, to quiet ourselves and to contemplate "the breadth and length and height and depth, and to know the love of Christ that surpasses knowledge, that you may be filled with all the fullness of God." (Ephesians 3:18)

Please join us for this night of worship and prayer.

OTHER NEWS and REMINDERS

LENTEN FAST - Week 4

This week, we are fasting from unnecessary spending.

Next week, we will be fasting from social media and online content. Turn off Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, blogs and your favorite news feeds. Try to limit your use of email for personal and non-work purposes. What is it like to unplug, to not obsessively check your email and social networking feeds?

Moving Assistance for Father Tom Seibert

We are asking for two or three individuals to help with a move that one of our Church family members will be making in the next couple of weeks. Father Tom Seibert will be moving into an assisted living facility, and he needs some help with the move. If you are interested and would be willing to lend a hand, the move is being coordinated by Nyla Storch. Please reach out to the Church Office for details, including the date and time for the move.

Membership Class

We will host a Membership Class on Sunday, March 27 from 2:30 to 5:30 PM at the Church. The class is facilitated by Pastor Matt Burnett.

The Membership Class reviews the theology and history of Holy Trinity and of Anglicanism in general. This is a comprehensive class on our collective and foundational beliefs, and it offers a look into what membership at HTAC is all about. If you are interested in attending, please reach out to Deacon Mark in the Church Office.

Lenten Fast - Week 3

This week, we are fasting from unnecessary spending. Resolve this week to buy as little as possible. Don't rent a movie or buy coffee from your favorite shop. Eat cheaply and save. Consider this: in what ways have the things you own ended up owning you? At the end of the week, we will take up a special offering from the money we all saved for a gift to our sister parish in Rwanda.

Lenten Movie Options

Following our Lenten movie night last Friday, Pastor Al has put together a list of suggestions for movies with a strong spiritual theme for the remainder of your Lent season. You can find the list and Pastor Al's comments at THIS LINK on our CCB website.

Outreach Survey

Please help us identify ministries that HTAC Outreach should consider supporting in 2022.

The Holy Trinity Outreach Team is currently working to develop recommendations to the Leadership Team for organizations and ministries that should be recipients of HTAC outreach funds in 2022.

As part of the development of these recommendations, the Outreach Team is interested in learning about the ministries and organizations our Church family is already engaged with or supporting.

You may be supporting an organization or may be passionate about a cause that is not currently on our list of possible recipients. We'd like to hear from you: What ministries do you support with your time or your money?

To enable us to gather basic information on the ministries/organizations already supported by our congregation, we have created a simple form that can be found at THIS LINK.

Please take a few moments to tell us about the ministries that you support. We do not ask for specifics - only the name of the organization and the website address, if you know it.

Immediately following the supper, we will be showing a wonderful movie called "Amazing Grace." It is the story of William Wilberforce, one of the historical heroes of the faith, who fought to abolish the slave trade in Britain.

The Persecuted Church with Pastor Al Janssen

Pastor Al Janssen will present the second of three special adult discipleship teachings on the Persecuted Church. Lenten Fast - Week 2

This week, we are fasting from sweets and treats. Resolve to deny yourself any type of sweets and desserts this week. Your "No thanks" could cover lattes in the morning to a snack at work or that chocolate ice cream in the evening. As you choose not to partake, note what happens inside you when you deny yourself something you really want or crave. What insight is the Holy Spirit offering you in the midst of that experience?

Thursday Spotlight: 10 March 2022

Second Sunday Stories: The Persecuted Church

Please join us between services for an informative and compelling examination of ministry to persecuted Christians around the world.

Pastor Al Janssen will be sharing his experiences and some amazing stories from his years with OpenDoors USA and his work with Brother Andrew in Eastern Europe, the Soviet Union, and several Muslim countries.

Pastor Al's first presentation will be part of our Second Sunday Stories this coming Sunday, March 13, from 9:50 to 10:40 AM. The second session will be on Sunday, March 20, and the final session will be on Sunday, March 27. All three sessions will be held between services in the Sanctuary.

NOTE: We will broadcast and record the first session and the third session, but there will be no broadcast or recording for the second session on March 20, due to the sensitive nature and the profound danger for Christians in the countries Pastor Al will discuss in that session. If you want to hear about these experiences, you'll need to attend in person.

If you would like to read up on some of the issues and locations Pastor Al will be discussing, you can check out the 2022 World Watch List and the OpenDoors USA website available at THIS LINK.

Spring CityServe Announcement

Finally, we have received word that COSILOVEYOU is doing a Spring CityServe event in 2022. CityServe Day is a no-strings-attached, city-wide day of service where “all are welcome to serve and be served.” The motivation is simple – when a city prospers, so do its people. Join as we serve schools, parks, local non-profit organizations, and neighborhoods, serving some of the most prominent needs in our city. This event is meant to simply be a starting place, inspiring the community to be engaged with needs in Colorado Springs year-round! You can see the full list of service projects and sign up for one of the two weekend days (April 30 and May 7) at THIS LINK on the CityServe website.

Thursday Spotlight: 3 March 2022

First Friday: An Evening of Praise and Worship

Please join us this Friday, March 4 at 6:30 PM, at Holy Trinity for an evening of praise and worship.

We have stepped gingerly into Lent. Just as Jesus turned his face toward Jerusalem and his own death on the Cross, we turn our faces away from darkness and toward the light of relationship with our Creator.

God's call to repentance hangs in the air. As we lean heavily into the truths of His love for us and His refusal to leave us in the darkness, our hearts respond with worship and praise for the One who loved us and saved us, even while we are sinners.

Come! Let us lift our voices in song to express the gratitude of our hearts. Or come and sit in contemplation of the wonder that is our Savior Jesus, our Comforter the Spirit, our Father the God of all Creation.

LENTEN FASTS

As we have done the past two years, we are offering the opportunity to embrace as a community weekly fasts through the season of Lent.

Our first weekly fast will begin on Monday, March 7 and will run through Saturday, March 12. We will be fasting from electronic media: television, YouTube, podcasts, music, and the like. The invitation: leave the radio off; don't watch your favorite shows; let Netflix, Hulo and Disney+ remain dark.

The idea here is to make space. Without the radio, podcasts, audio books, television shows - without all the noise, we can embrace silence and separation from the distractions of the world to make space to connect with and listen for the voice of God.

In the silence, what do you hear? What is the Spirit whispering to your heart?

We will publish each weekly fast in the Thursday Spotlight until we reach Holy Week.

Shrove Tuesday Pancake Supper

On Tuesday, March 1 @ 6:00 PM, we will host the Shrove Tuesday Pancake Supper. This event is a wonderful time of great food, great fellowship, and feasting in anticipation of Ash Wednesday. We still need volunteers, and we encourage everyone to bring something to share that goes with pancakes.

ASH WEDNESDAY and FIRST FRIDAY

As indicated on the event calendar below, we have three special services planned for the next week.

First, we have Ash Wednesday services planned for March 2 at 7 AM and 6:30 PM. This traditional service, which starts the season of Lent, includes the imposition of ashes in the form of a cross on the forehead as a sign of our mortality and penitence. The evening Ash Wednesday service will also include a time of soaking prayer and reflection at the end of the formal service. Please take advantage of this powerful ministry.

Second, we will have another First Friday evening service on March 4 at 6:30 PM. This will be a praise and worship night to set our hearts for the beginning of Lent. Please come and join us for a time of music that is focused on our Lord.

BAPTISMS!

The big water tank will be rolled out next week and filled with water. The heater will be plugged in, and bathwater temps will be had by Sunday morning. It's baptism time again at Holy Trinity! As Pastor Matt says, "Baptisms are the BEST!!" On Sunday, February 27, we will have our first baptism of the new year during the second (10:45 AM) service.

There's plenty of time and space to do more than 1 baptism on that Sunday. If you or your child might be interested in being baptized, please reach out to Pastor Matt. We'd love to add you to the list on the 27th, or find another date for this powerful, Spirit-filled experience in your life or the life of your child.

SHROVE TUESDAY

I remember my first Lent in an Anglican Church; it was here at Holy Trinity. "What in the world is 'Shrove Tuesday'?" I'd never heard of such a thing in my years with the Baptists.

Fortunately, Google search came to my rescue: "the day immediately preceding Ash Wednesday, celebrated as the last day before the Lenten fast."

Of course, feasting before the fasting.

At Holy Trinity, we have a tradition and practice of hosting a blowout pancake supper on the evening of Shrove Tuesday. Historically, it has been an event coordinated and offered by the men in the congregation with mounds of savory breakfast meats, griddles lined up on the kitchen counter with elbow-to-elbow griddle masters turning out piles of pancakes of all varieties. We invite everyone we know. In fact, there are some from the community who never miss our Shrove Tuesday Pancake Social, even though it's the only event they attend at Holy Trinity.

Shrove Tuesday is only 2 weeks away. We need griddles. We need griddle masters. We need cookers-of-meats. We need makers of pancake batter. We need YOU!

All of the above is being coordinated by Marty Schulte. Men, please reach out to Marty and let him know how you will help. Sign up to bring a griddle, or breakfast meat, or pancake batter, or just your spatula. You can reach Marty through the Church Office or via email.

Update on Refugee Ministry and Opportunity to Help

Movement is happening with the new Refugee Ministry initiative at Holy Trinity! We are starting the process of offering training to the 14 or so volunteers who expressed interest in participating in this ministry field, and we are in active conversation with Lutheran Family Services Rocky Mountains (LFSRM) about establishing a formal Cultural Mentorship Team at Holy Trinity to help and assist a refugee family in the Colorado Springs area. In addition, through the leadership of Amy Schulte, we are identifying immediate opportunities for volunteers to participate in the care and support of existing refugee families in our area.

In fact, Amy is currently working with a refugee from Central African Republic who is a good friend to her family and who just celebrated her 5 year anniversary of coming to the US. She recently received her driver’s license and is now shopping for a car. She has the money to purchase but doesn't have the knowledge or expertise to know a good car from a not-so-good car in the current market. If you know cars and car buying, would you be willing to help this woman navigate the selection and purchase process? If so, reach out to Amy, and she'll connect you with her friend.

Stay tuned for more updates on the movement forward with our Refugee Ministry. And please, if you are interested in participating, reach out to Amy or to the Church Office. There is plenty of need, and the process is still very open to additional volunteers.

Many of Jesus' teachings centered on the good news that God's kingdom had arrived. The arrival of the reign of God was not only a spiritual Gospel, but to those living under Roman rule, it had political implications as well. Join us as we learn about the historical context of Jesus' proclamation of the kingdom of God and discover why this is still important for us today.

Please invite your friends!

The service will be offered on Zoom for those who can't make it to the Church building. The link is https://us02web.zoom.us/j/86499601775.

CHILI COOKOFF and POTLUCK

Our annual Chili Cookoff is happening this Sunday, January 30, and you are invited to come and enjoy! We have plenty of room for additional chili offerings, so please cook up a pot of your favorite chili and bring to with you to Church on Sunday.

If you don't cook chili, we encourage you to bring a side dish, chips and salsa, a dessert -- whatever sounds good to you to share with all in attendance.

We will have a single worship service on Sunday morning, beginning at 9:30 AM. The Children's Catechesis class will meet during the service. Immediately after the service, we'll finish setting up the chili pots and laying out of the rest of the food. We anticipate eating will begin around 11 AM.

We're still looking for a couple of hearty souls to help with the tasting and rating of the chili entrants for the Cookoff. If you're willing to serve as a rater, please contact Deacon Mark in the Church Office.

As is always the case with our potluck meals on 5th Sundays, the coordination, setup and cleanup is a collective effort. We will appreciate any helping hands that are available to assist with the details and support a successful event.

Blessings to all!!

MORNING PRAYER is MOVING!

Our weekly Morning Prayer service, offered online via Zoom, is moving from Wednesday morning to Tuesday morning every week.

Beginning on January 25, we will host a Tuesday Morning Prayer service at 7 AM every week. The Zoom link for the service is https://us02web.zoom.us/j/87024601098.

The link is also posted and available on our website.

Morning Prayer is a powerful way to start your day. The liturgy comes from the 2019 Book of Common prayer, and it includes Psalms, Scripture reading, prayer and encouragement. The service takes just 20 minutes of your time. Please consider joining us!

Please also remember that we have a Lunchtime Lectio on Tuesdays and Fridays at Noon. This 15-minute respite uses the contemplative exercise of Lectio Divina to sit with a short passage of Scripture and to hear from God. The Lunchtime Lectio sessions are held online, using the Zoom platform. The link is as follows:
