Life Sunday This Week

On Sunday we will be celebrating Life Sunday and remembering the importance of every human life. Our church is a Life Affirming Church, part of the Colorado Springs Chapter of Anglicans for Life, and connected with Life Network, the local pregnancy resource center. We believe that every life should be protected and valued. If you are interested in learning more about Anglicans for Life or how our church supports Life Network, please feel free to reach out at cosanglicansforlife@gmail.com. This will connect you with our Life Ambassador and Chapter Leader.

CHURCH PLANT DISCERNMENT BEGINS THIS SUNDAY!

This Sunday, Chase Whitney will be preaching, as well as taking extra time to help you discern if you are called to be part of the new church plant, which will be launching this September! (Things are getting real...) 

There will also be time to meet with him after each service in the Level III Classroom next to the Sanctuary.

Dear Holy Trinity Family,

Would you like to hear what God is confirming in you and, in turn, confirm your faith in Him in the midst of your church family?

Confirmation is often called "lay ordination." It is a worship service in which the bishop lays his hands on us (a very biblical idea) as we confirm our relationship with God, but *also* to seek God's confirmation of His plans for us!

It's often, but by no means exclusively, a time for those baptized as infants to fully realize their baptismal promises by public proclamation of their faith. It really is for anyone of, say, 14 years thru adulthood, who may have been baptized as a child *or* simply desires to seek God's "Yes" for them. 

Irrespective of life stage, it has always required preparation.

So we spend 8 evenings, plus a day retreat, exploring our faith, specifically our Anglican-informed faith, via the classic English Reformation Catechism, stretching back to the early centuries, as well as personal prayer and self reflection.

You are welcome to come to the first class and decide if this is for you.

We will be having our Annual Meeting on January 11th @ 5:00 PM. The meeting will be followed by a Chili Fest! Please bring your best chili, or a side, such as bread or salad. Sorry, no prizes this year. Just a time to share in good food and fellowship on a cold winter's night. 

If you would like to learn more about Holy Trinity, we have a Newcomer Lunch coming up on January 18th, right after the 2nd service.

The Peterson's will host a Holy Trinity Christmas Day Meal at the church for anyone who does not already have plans. The day will include food, games, and conversation. A Christmas ham will be provided, but those attending can help by bringing a dish to share. We will continue to worship and celebrate as we eat, fellowship, and sing some more Christmas carols.

If you're considering becoming a member, we have a Membership Discovery Class coming up on December 7th, 3:00 pm - 6:00 pm.  REGISTER

Additional Newcomer Lunches and Membership classes will continue to rotate every other month, so if you miss one, you will have another opportunity soon. 

As you may know, Advent is a unique season in the church year to prepare ourselves for The Incarnation (Christmas!), and the Second Coming! But Advent itself needs some explanation, and perhaps preparation, to be lived out well!

So, we will be offering 4 “Preparing to Prepare” classes, two in November, one in December, and one in January (ok this is a post-Advent reflection class.) The goal is to know and love God more deeply and personally, and I hope to see you at these events!

While the feedback we received while planning this event was overwhelmingly positive, we were unfortunately not able to generate enough support to be able to bring our vision to bear in a way that would be worthwhile for our vendors, attendees, and ministry partners. While we are disappointed to postpone the event, we are encouraged by the response, and are looking forward to putting our efforts towards  producing a strong offering next year. We are so grateful to everyone who has expressed their interest in supporting our local life-affirming ministries and small businesses. 

In order to make more room for our growing church, we are moving our 8:30am service to 9:00am. The good news is, there will be Children's Catechesis at both services, AND we'll still have 30 minutes of fellowship time between services!

Many of you have reached out asking what we can do to help after the flash floods in Texas over the 4th of July holiday. Thank you. We are so grateful for your willingness to pray, to give, and to go. 

You can donate specifically to Texas Flood Relief Efforts on our website. Please forward this email and share this link far and wide - every little bit counts as together we will support our brothers and sisters and their surrounding community.

ARDF is working with the North American Lutheran Church to help identify needs and coordinate response efforts early in the coming week, including the delivery of flood relief supplies from ACNA churches in the area with Disaster Response Warehouses.

We are pre-staging and putting a plan in place to stand ready to respond after first responders say it is safe to enter the area.

In April, Welcome COS partnered with several other organizations to launch a new program called Culinary Connections. This new program brings people together through food with a purpose.  We were honored to be highlighted in this lovely local article “Side Dish with Schniper” after our pilot cook day!


Through Culinary Connections, refugees and immigrants share their culinary expertise while community members experience new flavors and cultures firsthand. Every meal supports job training, certification, and fair wages for our refugee women chefs.


Several of our dear Syrian friends are cooking for the next event on June 14th.  Our HTAC family is welcome to purchase meals. They are selling out quickly (so if you don't snag one, you'll have another opportunity in July!).

Ordinary Time is the season that bookends the liturgical year: following Pentecost, it's the time when we work out our faith in the power of the Holy Spirit while also anticipating the coming of the Lord at Advent. During this lengthy season, we would like to feature a rotating exhibit of photographs from Holy Trinity that speak to the heart of this season reflected in psalm 96:9: O Worship the Lord in the beauty of holiness; let the whole earth stand in awe of him. Dear Holy Trinity Family,

On behalf of Welcome COS, I want to extend my heartfelt thanks for your generous giving last Sunday. In challenging times, my heart is so encouraged by our church and the tangible ways you are caring for our refugee neighbors.  This week, we met with partners in this work to make a plan of care, specifically focused on newly arrived refugees whose services and funding have been stopped.  Welcome COS is stepping into several different areas to provide support to those families who are still new to our city.  Your generosity is helping us to rapidly expand what we can do in the community.  Thank you and many blessings.

We plan to fly into Guatemala City from Denver, and stay near Antigua about 2 hours away from Guatemala City. We will spend most of our time in the Antigua area (a World Heritage Site and relatively small city with a population of 50,000) and depending on the mix of the team and numbers of adults & kids, our abilities and interests etc. we may split up teams for varied ministry opportunities and schedules. The hope is for you (and your family) to engage personally with ministry opportunities, build relationships and get a glimpse of God’s heart for the people of Guatemala.

Included in our trip schedule:  team conversations/debriefs, prayer, worship, rest, relaxation (local tour of Antigua) etc. 

Costs are based on local ministry knowledge and should be fairly realistic.  We would encourage you to budget in some extra (gifts for families served, personal shopping / meals out, tours and activities etc).

Through beautiful melodies and timeless carols, this event offers a moment to reflect and rejoice. This concert is a celebration for all ages, inviting you to share in the music and message of Christmas. Forté looks forward to ringing in the season and sharing the light of Christmas with you! Family friendly and free admission (a free-will offering will be collected). 

Location: Sienna Place Apartments, 850 E. Cheyenne Rd., Colorado Springs, CO 80905.  Meet in front of the office.  Parking for visitors is available around the complex, just please avoid labeled parking spots for residents.

This year, in partnership with Welcome COS, we want to go outside of our own northern side of the city and engage a community where many of our city's newly arriving refugee families live. Sienna Place Apartments is comprised of 20 apartment buildings on 11 acres with over 900 residents!Come join us as we bring the joy of music and celebration while engaging with a community that is made up of so many different people from refugees to those who are struggling economically.

What to expect: Anyone is welcome, including children! We’ll hand you a booklet with all the words, and walk along the apartments, singing to the residents. They know we are coming, and we expect to make new friends along the way.

What to wear: Please dress in WARM Christmas-themed outfits!  We want to be joyful and celebratory, but also know that the weather can be cold at this time of year so please plan accordingly.

Beauty will save the world, according to Dostoevsky. Curt Thompson says, “Beauty draws our attention and attunes our hearts to the presence of God.” To quote another friend here in this congregation, Lancia Smith,“Every act of beauty is a defiance of despair, every candle lit repels the darkness.” 

 The strongly reinforced theme of the Compline service is this: God is our protector. It is this last service of the Daily Office that deals most directly with the assaults of the enemy and the other perils we face, asking for God’s peace and shelter. Join us for this evening rich with Scripture, music, peace, and beauty. It is an opportunity to lay your cares at God’s throne. 

 Special guests of Soli Deo Gloria Choir will be helping to lead the service. 

 Come pray for peace on December 7th.

What is Advent and how do I "do" it?  Advent is a season of preparation for Christmas and The Incarnation, as well as its own deep and important season (1-23 December), but sometimes it's hard to learn how to participate fully while doing it. This class will set you up with history, practice and Scripture so that you can more fully enter into this deep and beautiful season and into Christmas itself.
