Weekly Update: 16-21 May 2023

Service Schedule for This Sunday - May 21

Sunday Morning Services: This is the Sunday After Ascension Day.

We will have our regular service schedule this Sunday: 8:30 AM and 10:45 AM services. Pastor Chris Stroup will be preaching at both services this Sunday.

Our regular calendar of weekly events, as described AT THIS LINK, will be in place through the rest of the week.

Special Readings for Pentecost

It is a tradition at Holy Trinity to have a special reading of the story of Pentecost from the Book of Acts at each of our services on Pentecost Sunday.

Our special reading calls on the congregation to experience voices in as many different languages as we can gather, recreating the "speaking in other tongues" experience of the disciples as described in Acts, Chapter 2.

In years past, we have had readers in French, Greek, German, Spanish, Czech, Afrikaans, Chinese. . .such a variety.

If you are one who can read and speak a language other than English, would you be a part of our Pentecost reading?

Please reach out to Deacon Mark in the Church Office, so we can add you to the list of readers. We will need readers for both services on Pentecost Sunday, so please let Deacon Mark know which service (both would be ideal) you are available and which language you would like to read.

HTAC Concordia Ringers Concert

The HTAC Concordia Ringers will hold a free benefit concert on Saturday, May 20th @ 7 PM in the Holy Trinity Sanctuary. Please come!

The Ringers have been supporting music and worship at Holy Trinity since 2013. They are presenting this concert to benefit Redeemed Seasons Ministries, a local care and healing ministry founded by Mark and Christy Summers.

The Concordia Ringers hope this event will begin a tradition of benefit concerts, as they continue to seek ways to minister through their special collaborative art form.

Redeemed Seasons provides Biblical care, support and discipleship to men and women who struggle with brokenness in their sexuality, ministering in particular to those with unwanted same-sex attraction, gender confusion, addiction to sexually explicit content, and marital dysfunction.

This evening concert is a special opportunity for all of us to support our bell choir ensemble and to encourage and support a ministry, Redeemed Seasons, that is so very needed in our current culture and times.

Rich Bennett, the Executive Director and CEO of Life Network, will be visiting Holy Trinity on Sunday, May 14. Between the Sunday services, Rich will brief the congregation on the ministry work of Life Network and will talk about the importance of the Walk for Life, scheduled for June 3.

Weekly Update: 18-23 April 2023

Anglican Confirmation at Holy Trinity

What is confirmation? (BCP, Preface)

"Confirmation is clearly grounded in Scripture: the Apostles prayed for, and laid their hands on those who had already been baptized (2 Timothy 1:6-7; Acts 8:14-17; 19:6).

In Confirmation, through the Bishop’s laying on of hands and prayer for daily increase in the Holy Spirit, God strengthens the believer for Christian life in the service of Christ and his kingdom. Grace is God’s gift, and we pray that he will pour out his Holy Spirit on those who have already been made his children by adoption and grace in Baptism.

Those having made adult professions of faith in other Christian traditions (including those confirmed in other traditions) are received into the Anglican Church with prayer and the laying on of hands by a Bishop."

Who is confirmation for?

It is for adults from other traditions who want to be officially received by the Bishop as Anglicans.  Just as important, the Bishop prays that your gifts from the Holy Spirit would be released and used in our Church.  (Bonus: our Bishop has been known to give prophetic words to Confirmands from time to time. ;)
Confirmation is also for youth who have not yet professed their reception of the faith before the Church.

What should I do?

Whether or not you're sure if you want to be confirmed, you can attend our Confirmation Prep Class during fellowship hour (starting at 9:55am, sharp)!
Dates: 4/23, 5/7, 5/14, 5/21

The class will be taught by Holy Trinity pastors between the services, starting this Sunday.  For each session, there will be preparatory podcasts and a brief reading. The class format will be a presentation, followed by a time to discuss your questions.

ACTION STEP: To join the class, please email Pastor Matt Traylor by this Thursday (4/20): matt.traylor@holytrinityanglicanchurch.org.

It will be a couple more weeks before the playset is safe to use. We have quite a bit of repair work and carpentry to do to replace the roof and stabilize the entire structure.

Parents: please help us keep everyone safe by having your children stay off of the playset.

We'll keep you posted on progress!

Wednesday, April 5: Stations of the Cross service @ 6:30 PM.

Thursday, April 6: Maundy Thursday service @ 6:30 PM.

Thursday Spotlight - 30 March 2023

Holy Week Service Schedule

The service schedule for Holy Week is as follows:

Wednesday, April 5: Stations of the Cross service @ 6:30 PM.

Thursday, April 6: Maundy Thursday service @ 6:30 PM.

Friday, April 7: Last Words of Jesus service @ Noon.

Friday, April 7: Good Friday evening services @ 4:30 and 6:30 PM.

The three evening services at 6:30 - on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday - will be broadcast via Zoom. You can find the Zoom links at THIS LINK on our Holy Trinity website.

Easter Morning Worship

Here are a few considerations as you plan for Easter morning and our worship services:

SERVICE TIMES: We will have services at our regular times - 8:30 AM and 10:45 AM.

BAPTISMS: As things now stand, we will have 4 baptisms during the 10:45 service on Easter Sunday. We are so excited for these baptisms and look forward to celebrating with these families.

SEATING: We are anticipating quite a few visitors on Easter Sunday, because we are sending out invitation cards to homes in our neighborhood. We have moved our overflow seating into the Annex, where we have more room. We'll have rows of chairs in that space, so folks who cannot find a seat in the Sanctuary can watch the service on the big screen TV.

As you plan your Easter Sunday morning, you may want to consider attending the 8:30 service. Typically, on Easter morning, we have seating available during the early service, but the 10:45 service nearly always exceeds our capacity in the Sanctuary. If you are willing to come to the earlier service, that might open a seat or seats for those visiting for the later service.

Care 2 Share - Ministry Briefing

Sunday, March 26, between services

Danny John of Care 2 Share Ministries will be visiting Holy Trinity on Sunday, March 26, to offer a briefing on the work his ministry is doing in Asia to impact positively the lives of the poor and disadvantaged and to introduce people to the Gospel.

Danny, who currently lives with his family in the UK, has a powerful story of God's rescue and redemption and of God's faithfulness through decades of ministry around the world - Brazil, Uganda, India and elsewhere.

Holy Trinity currently supports Care 2 Share financially through our Outreach program. We are blessed to have Danny visit us during his U.S. support-raising tour, and we encourage everyone to join us between services to hear directly from one of the ministries abroad we pray for and support.

Church Planting - Prayer & Discerning

We are entering a season of communal discernment for the location, vision, and mission of the new church plant that Holy Trinity is co-sponsoring with IAC and our Diocese. This is the church plant for which Eric Chesney is apprenticing.

Are you curious about the process? Possible interested in participating?

Join us for one or all of five prayer meetings scheduled over the next five months for the purpose of listening for and discerning the unique things God has dreamed for this church plant. We anticipate this process will help us recognize and embrace God's vision and where He is leading.

To learn more about these prayer and discernment meetings and to sign up, please fill out the registration form at THIS LINK.

If you have questions, please reach out to the Church Office.

Volunteers Needed for Palm Sunday & Easter

We are continuing to recruit volunteers for important roles at our services on Palm Sunday and Easter Sunday. Here are the specifics:

PALM SUNDAY READERS: Our Palm Sunday services on April 2 will include a dramatic reading of the Passion Story from the Gospel of Matthew. We still need a few individuals, young or not-so-young, to be readers for the dramatic reading.

SUNDAY GREETERS: We are anticipating quite a few visitors on both Sundays, and we want to have Greeters in place to welcome our visitors and help them get oriented to our worship spaces and comfortably seated for the services. Won't you be one who meets and greets those who come to worship on these two important Sundays?

ACOLYTES: We would love to have Acolytes in the two services on Easter Sunday. If you (or your child) are interested in serving as an Acolyte, we'd love to do a brief training to get you ready to serve in this capacity.

If you are willing to serve in any of these roles, please contact Deacon Mark in the Church Office at mark@holytrinityanglicanchurch.org or by phone at 719-505-8021.

READERS NEEDED FOR PALM SUNDAY

Our Palm Sunday services on April 2 will include a dramatic reading of the Passion Story from the Gospel of Matthew. We need individuals, young and not-so-young, to be readers of the various parts and roles included in the dramatic reading.

This dramatic reading is an integral part of the Palm Sunday service. We need a minimum of 7 individual readers for this piece, but we can accommodate up to twice that number, if available. Please volunteer and help us out.

Daylight Savings Time - SUNDAY!!

How could it possibly be time to spring forward again?!? Didn't we just “fall back” a few weeks ago?

Alas, it IS time to turn our clocks forward once more. Did you know that daylight savings time has been in place for more than 100 years? It was first implemented in 1908 and became the law of the US in 1918.

Please remember to turn your clocks forward on Saturday night. If you don't, you'll be late for everything on Sunday.

Second Sunday Story - Clay Clarkson

Our Second Sunday Story this month will feature Clay Clarkson, a writer, musician, worship leader and co-founder of Whole Heart Ministries.

Clay has an inspiring story that you won't want to miss. Join us at 9:50 AM on Sunday, March 12, for Clay's episode of Second Sunday Stories.

Weekly Update: 7-12 March 2023

Service Schedule for This Sunday - March 12

Sunday Morning Services: This is the third Sunday in Lent. We will have two services at our normal times: 8:30 AM and 10:45 AM.

Between services (9:50-10:40), we will have the latest installment of our Second Sunday Stories series. This month, our guest will be Clay Clarkson, writer, musician, worship leader and co-founder of Whole Heart Ministries. Pastor Chris Stroup will moderate the conversation with Clay.

Our regular calendar of weekly events, as described AT THIS LINK, will be in place through the rest of the week.

Mark Your Calendars: Sunday, March 26!

We have two special events coming on Sunday, March 26.

First, we will have a special interview from the Holy Trinity Outreach Team. Our guest will be Danny John of Care 2 Share Ministries. Danny, who is based out of the UK, will share about the missions work his ministry does to bring care and resources to under-privileged communities and people. Care 2 Share is one of the ministries that HTAC supports financially, and this interview will be an excellent opportunity to hear, first-hand, about the missions activities that we are supporting.

Second, on Sunday the 26th at 6:30 PM, we will host a Lenten Contemplative Evening Service in the HTAC Sanctuary. This service, like the contemplative service during Advent, will be a sung Compline liturgy, but for Lent, we will feature special music and art pieces focused on the Lenten themes of repentance and prayer. This will be a wonderful space to enter into deep worship and preparation for the events reflected on and remembered during Holy Week.

Thursday Spotlight: 2 March 2023

We need Sunday Prayer Team volunteers.

Almost every Sunday during Communion, we offer, at the back of the Sanctuary, one-on-one prayer for individuals who need prayer for themselves or prayer for someone in their family or community. This is a powerful ministry that makes real differences in the lives of our Church family.

Our team of Sunday Pray-ers is somewhat depleted, and we need additional volunteers who are willing to pray for others on Sunday mornings.

If you are willing to participate as a Prayer Team member on Sundays, please email Deacon Mark at office@holytrinityanglicanchurch.org.

We will provide training to help you pray comfortably in this context, if you aren't already so equipped.

Second Sunday Story - Clay Clarkson

Our Second Sunday Story this month will feature Clay Clarkson, a writer, musician, worship leader and co-founder of Whole Heart Ministries.

Whole Heart is focused on strengthening families in the Lord, equipping Christian parents to give them help and hope to raise wholehearted children for Christ.

Clay has an inspiring story that you won't want to miss. Join us at 9:50 AM on Sunday, March 12 (next Sunday between services) for Clay's episode of Second Sunday Stories.

Coming Offerings in March!

Here are two additional special events coming in March for our Holy Trinity family:

Missions Making a Difference: One of the ministries HTAC supported financially in 2022 is Care 2 Share. This ministry, registered in the UK, provides a variety of care and support programs to communities in Asia. They have provided water wells to rural communities, life-skills training for under-privileged women, and discipleship for followers of Jesus. One of the principals of Care 2 Share, will be at Holy Trinity on Sunday, March 26 to provide a briefing on the ministry work of Care 2 Share.  He will speak between services in our Sanctuary from 9:50 to 10:40 AM.

Lenten Contemplative Evening Service: We will have an evening contemplative service on Sunday, March 26 at 6:30 PM. This service, like the contemplative service during Advent, will be a sung Compline liturgy with special music and art pieces focused on the Lenten themes of repentance and prayer. This will be a wonderful opportunity for deep worship on the Sunday prior to Palm Sunday and Holy Week.
