Special Class: Why Christians Sing

With Advent just around the corner, worship is on our minds.

Why have Christians throughout the centuries included singing in their worship?
How does the act of singing form us spiritually?
Is this just for the talented people, or can everyone sing?
How does singing include both vertical and horizontal aspects of worship?
Come to our 3-part interactive class between Sunday services on Nov. 5, 12, and 19 to discover the answers to these questions and more!

Terri Moon will lead us in an examination of how this one activity (singing) not only helps us to connect with God, but also builds our community and encourages us to worship with heart, soul, mind and strength.

Important News and Items

Thank You!! We want to extend a special callout and thank you to Debbie Eastman for her gifted and committed support to make the potluck brunch on the 29th go so well. And we also send out huge gratitude to Krysta Smart for her amazing management and coordination of the Trunk or Treat event on Sunday night. What an effort, and what an outcome!! Both of these ladies are treasures to Holy Trinity!

Blessing and Reception: We will host a reception between services on Sunday, November 12 for our new Associate Pastor, Jeff Stone, and his family. Please join us to celebrate the addition of Pastor Jeff to our staff. Pastor Matt will be praying a blessing over the Stone family at both services on the 12th.

Special Videos Available: We have posted two important videos on the Holy Trinity website this week. First, we have the video recording of Eric Chesney's presentation regarding the plans and next steps in our process of planting a new church in Colorado Springs. Second, we have Pastor Matt's sermon last Sunday, introducing and explaining the special sermon series that will begin this coming Sunday on the elements of Rest, Relationship, & Restoration, as described above. Eric's video can be found at THIS LINK. And Pastor Matt's sermon video is at THIS LINK.

Greeters Needed for Advent/Christmas: Finally, as we plan for the coming seasons of Advent and Christmas, we have resolved to make new and intentional efforts to greet and welcome well those who visit Holy Trinity for our worship services. To make this happen, we are re-instituting Greeters for our services: 2 greeters (or sets of greeters) for every service in Advent and Christmas. That's at least 16 individual volunteers. Each volunteer will be asked to be a Greeter for a particular service, to hand out bulletins and flyers, to shake hands and ask names, and to show folks to the Sanctuary or other facilities in our building. If you (or your family) are willing to be a greeter on one of the Sundays in December, or for the Christmas Eve or Christmas morning services, please reach out to Deacon Mark via email or call the Church Office at 719-505-8021.

Refugee Ministry @ HTAC

We have a number of needs and opportunities that are rising to the surface in Refugee Ministries at Holy Trinity. Please read through these items and prayerfully consider whether one or more of these might be something God is calling you to respond to.

Furniture Needed: One of the big challenges in settling refugees in our Colorado Springs community is finding what's needed to furnish their apartments and homes. Most come here with nothing, and although a roof overhead is a tremendous blessing, refugee families can't fully settle in without tables to eat at, couches and chairs to sit on, and dressers and chests to store their belongings in.

Thus, the refugee support arm of Lutheran Family Services (LFS) is calling for donations of furniture. NO BEDS are needed, but nearly everything else is in short supply: kitchen/dining room tables and chairs, dressers and chests of drawers, couches and arm chairs, end tables, etc.

LFS will actually come with a truck and pick up the items you want to donate. If you have any of these items, please reach out to Amy Schulte or to the Church Office, and we'll get you connected with the right people.

Cultural Mentorship and Relationship: As we've communicated before, we have a local Afghan family that has been cared for by the Nolte family at HTAC. This family is in need of additional relational support, as the Noltes need to cut back on their availability. There are also other families in the LFS system that need care and support: youth mentors, shopping assistance, language assistance, help with forms and registrations with the government, etc.

You might be exactly the person a refugee or refugee family needs to know!

If you are interested in exploring options to care for individuals or families in this arena, please reach out to Amy Schulte or contact the Church Office.

Operation Christmas Child 2023

It's time for the 2023 edition of Operation Christmas Child!

Children around the world are beginning to think about Christmas with excitement and joy. Samaritan's Purse is setting up collection stations and preparing deliveries.

We pray and hope you can help bring a special Christmas blessing for a child who needs to experience the love of Jesus. Shoeboxes will be available in the Fellowship Hall starting October 14. Please return them filled with love and goodies during National Collection Week November 13-19.

Each gift box will be tagged for a specific age group and gender, and suggested gifts for each child group are listed on the Operation Christmas Child website at THIS LINK.

Our OCC program is being coordinated again this year by Ashley Carlson. If you have questions, please reach out to Ashley or contact the Church Office.

In addition, he will be describing the concrete next steps for those who may be feeling God's call to be a part of the lead-up and launch of the new church plant. We are, in fact, entering that important formative phase where specific families and individuals will be asked to pray about participating in this church plant endeavor.

This is definitely a meeting you won't want to miss!  Eric will offer his presentation from 9:50 to 10:40 AM in the Sanctuary.

Nyagatovu School Fee Support

Holy Trinity recently sent funds to our sister parish in Nyagatovu, Rwanda, to help families in the parish with school fees and school supplies. We received the following information in an email update from Pastor Jean Claude:

Greetings in the name of Jesus Christ and hope all is well with you and your family and Holy Trinity Church. We are writing this email to thank you so much for the funds that were sent to Nyagatovu Parish for school fees and school materials. . .We paid school fees for 10 students as shown in the picture [above], and the children were given books and pens.

Refugee Ministry Needs: Lutheran Family Services has reached out to us for help with some important needs for refugee families in our city. They need gently used (or new) coats for arriving refugees and asylees. With winter around the corner, they have a shortage of men and women size SMALL and MEDIUM, and children's coats of all sizes. They also have a need for strollers. Many refugee families have multiple children, and moms are walking their school-aged children while trying to carry their younger kids. If you have either of these items, please bring them to the church, and we'll arrange to have them delivered to Lutheran Family Services.

Calling Musicians

Holy Trinity's music team is seeking musicians, both singers and instrumentalists, who have a calling to lead worship. We are looking for those who are willing to cultivate faithfulness, develop their musical skills, serve with their time and talents, and desire to grow in their own life of worship.

We are seeking musicians who have some skill, yes, but more importantly, those who are willing to be used by God to bless the entire congregation’s growth in worship, for His glory.

When ministry becomes performance, then the sanctuary becomes a theater, the congregation becomes an audience, worship becomes entertainment, and man’s applause and approval become the measure of success. But when ministry is for the glory of God, his presence moves into the sanctuary. Even the unsaved visitor will fall down on his face, worship God, and confess that God is among us.
– Warren and David Wiersbe

If you are interested in being a part of this ministry, even once in a while, please contact Terri Moon at: musicalmoons@gmail.com.

HTAC/IAC Joint Service & Picnic

In the graphic above you will find most of the information you'll need for the big service and picnic scheduled for this coming Sunday, September 3.

The churches are providing the main course for the picnic lunch, and we ask those attending to bring a side dish or dessert to share. If your last name begins with the letter A to M, please bring a side dish that goes with bar-b-que. If your last name begins with the letter N to Z, please bring a dessert.

If you have questions or need additional information, please reach out to the Church Office.

Life Group Signups!

Each of us and all of us are designed by God to live and thrive in community. We, like God, are relational beings, and relational beings need to know others and to be known by others. Sunday worship, as important as it is, doesn't fully meet our relational needs. We must have small community contexts where we can be safe and transparent and can receive and practice the kind of loving that God calls us to as brothers and sister in Christ. At Holy Trinity, life groups offer that needed small group context.

We are currently putting together our life groups for the Fall. We hope to have everything and everyone in place by the end of September. Please don't miss out!

If you are interested in joining a life group, please reach out to the Church Office or fill out the Life Group Signup form on the website at THIS LINK.

We currently have 8 life groups actively meeting, and 7 of those groups have space for additional participants. We are also looking to form, if needed, new life groups for the Fall.

If you would like to join a life group, or if you are interested and possibly willing to lead a life group, please reach out to Deacon Mark at (719) 505-8021 or by email at mark@holytrinityanglicanchurch.org.

This healing and discipleship experience will run on Monday evenings for 12 weeks beginning on October 2nd at Holy Trinity.

Relational brokenness often stands as a barrier to our relationship with God, and it obviously impacts our relationships with family, friends and community. Seating for this small group experience is limited to 7 men and 7 women, so if you are interested in participating, please contact Deacon Mark or Christy soon. Their contact information, along with information about Rescue & Restoring, can be found on the RSM website: redeemedseasons.org.

Softball Game @ the HTAC/IAC Picnic

As we have done the past two years, HTAC and IAC are organizing a friendly softball game at the joint picnic on September 3 at Bear Creek Regional Park.

If you are interested in playing, please reach out to Austin Backus or let the Church Office know.

We encourage everyone and anyone who would like to play softball that day to bring their glove. We would also appreciate you bringing any other equipment (bats, balls, etc.) you might have to help the game come together.

This is a very fun event with not even a hint of performance pressure. It's a great opportunity to play alongside your brothers and sisters from IAC and HTAC and to play away some of the great calories enjoyed at the picnic.

Joint Service and Picnic (Sept 3)

Our annual outdoor service and picnic over Labor Day weekend is coming! This year, the service and picnic will be a combined effort of Holy Trinity, International Anglican, and Restoration Anglican (from Monte Vista).

We will begin the shared Communion service at 9 AM at Bear Creek Regional Park. The picnic will follow, immediately after the service.

We need several small teams of individuals (or families) to help with setup and cleanup, food layout, greeting tables, and parking lot monitors. We also need to have everyone RSVP for the event, so we can plan the food and the service to cover all who attend.

Please fill out the RSVP form at THIS LINK, and sign up to help with one of the volunteer functions.

We're really excited to have the folks from Restoration Anglican joining us this year, and we anticipate another glorious gathering.

Weekly Update: August 8-13, 2023

Schedule for Sunday, August 13

Sunday Morning Services: This Sunday, Pastor Matt Burnett will be preaching.

We will have services at our regular Sunday times - 8:30 AM and 10:45 AM. The nursery will be open and staffed for the second service.

Our regular calendar of weekly events, as described AT THIS LINK, will be in place through the rest of the week.

Food Trucks!

The food truck event returns to HTAC this Friday evening, August 11, from 5 to 8 PM.

We've had great turnouts, excellent dining, and awesome outreach opportunities during the past food truck events in the HTAC parking lot.

The trucks are back this Friday for the August event. Please come join us! It's a great way to support our neighborhood and to meet some of the folks who walk or drive by our church every day, wondering what those Anglicans are really like.

Labor Day Weekend Service/Picnic

We need volunteers for the IAC/HTAC joint service and picnic!

The big Labor Day Weekend service and picnic at Bear Creek Regional Park is just a few weeks away. We've been asked to corral as many as 25 volunteers to help with the following key functions:

-- Parking

-- Greeting

-- Setup

-- Cleanup

We currently have less than 10 volunteers. Please consider signing up to help out.

We especially need a few people to help direct traffic in the parking lots at Bear Creek, and we need a couple of folks to help staff the greeting tables, where the bulletins and picnic instructions are handed out.

The volunteer signup form is included in the picnic RSVP form. You can find it all at THIS LINK on our website.

Life Groups: Doing Life Together

One of the most profound and enduring truths about the human experience is provided right at the beginning of Scripture, at the beginning of all Creation: "Then the Lord God said, 'It is not good that the man should be alone. . .'"  (Gen 2:18 ESV)

We, like our Creator, are made for community. Just as our God is inherently relational -- Father, Son, and Holy Spirit -- so also we, created in the image of God, are naturally and inherently relational beings, designed and intended to live in Community.

Alone, without community, we simply do not thrive.

Who constitutes your community? Who knows your victories and your struggles, your celebrations and your worries, your loves and your dismays? If we never put ourselves into a context where we can be known closely and authentically, sadly, the answer is "No one."

All of us -- every one, without exception -- needs a small group of co-journeyers (friends) in this life who support us and for whom we can offer love and support. Church life groups are a context where you can know and be known, where you can become a friend and can have friends.

If you are not currently part of a life group, talk to someone you know at HTAC who is in a life group, and listen to their testimony about what God has done in their life through small group relationships. Don't miss out!

Over the next few weeks, we will be sharing stories about small group experiences, collecting names of individuals and families who are interested in trying out a Life Group, and recruiting leaders for the formation of new Life Groups at HTAC.

Pleae, fill out the online Life Group Sign-up form

If you have questions, reach out to Pastor Al Janssen or Deacon Mark Summers.

Come and see what God has for you in a Life Group at HTAC!

Volunteers Needed for Joint Service/Picnic

We need to recruit approximately 25 individuals to help with a variety of tasks at the September 3rd joint service and picnic with International Anglican Church. The event will be held at Bear Creek Regional Park, and the service will begin at 9:30 AM.

We've got less than a month to pull all of this together, and your help would be deeply appreciated.
