Preaching Series - Hebrews

We are beginning this Sunday an extended preaching series from the Book of Hebrews. The series will run into early October.

Each Sunday sermon will draw from a large segment of the letter (usually about a chapter). The person preaching each week will invite us to focus on a portion of that week's larger reading - the verses they feel the Holy Spirit has emphasized in their preparations.

The theme of the letter to the Hebrews is "the absolute supremacy and sufficiency of Jesus Christ as revealer and as mediator of God's grace." (NIV Study Bible, Introduction: Hebrews.)

Eugene Peterson writes about Hebrews: "The focus becomes clear and sharp again: God's action in Jesus. And we are free once more for the act of faith, the one human action in which we don't get in the way but on the Way." (Peterson, The Message, Introduction; Hebrews.)

Please spend some time in this wonderful book of the New Testament. Our first sermon in the series will be presented by Eric Chesney, Church Plant Apprentice, and will come from Hebrews 1:1 - 2:4.

REMINDER - Kid's Art and Music Camp

We are hosting our Kid's Sacred Art and Music Camp at Holy Trinity on Monday through Thursday mornings this week. We have a great group of 30 kids and an amazing group of volunteers making this week-long camp happen. Please be praying that God uses this time in powerful ways to bless and grow the children attending the camp.

Thursday Spotlight: 2 June 2022

VOLUNTEERS NEEDED FOR KEY POSITIONS

We have several key positions that desperately need volunteer leaders. Deacon Mark is at capacity and needs some help in a few critical spots. Would you consider stepping in to one of these roles?

Here are the roles that need a volunteer or volunteers:

HTAC Coordinator for the Labor Day Sunday Service and Picnic with International Anglican Church (IAC)

What: Remember that awesome outdoor service and picnic with IAC last year at Bear Creek Pavilion? We're doing it again this year over Labor Day weekend. We need to identify a single point person (coordinator) to work with IAC on organizing and executing on this event. The HTAC Coordinator will recruit an army of volunteers to help with the functions and tasks assigned to our congregation.

When: Soon (if not immediately). IAC is in the very early stages of beginning to plan the event, and they need from us the person/persons with whom they will communicate as the event plans develop.

Time Commitment: Obviously, the initial time demands are relatively light, but as we get closer to the event, the list of "things to get done" grows, and more time is required. If you'd like to get an idea of what's involved, please reach out to Wendy Oliver, who coordinated the event for us last year.

Say Yes: If you're ready to "say yes" to this role, or if you have additional questions, please reach out to Deacon Mark in the Church Office.

Hospitality Coordinator

What: We have a variety of social events and gatherings on the Church calendar that require coordination. The Hospitality Coordinator will help us execute effectively on those events by recruiting other volunteers to help with setup and cleanup and to organize the provision of food and beverages, where needed. Deacon Mark will work on communications and announcements to the congregation, as requested by the Coordinator.

When: Both July and October are 5-Sunday months, so each of those months will have a church-wide potluck on the fifth Sunday morning. We also have a number of special events as we roll into Advent and Christmas, including but not limited to the Hanging of the Greens and Christmas Eve services.

Time Commitment: Week-to-week, this role doesn't require a lot of attention, but as we approach the dates for specific events, like the 5th-Sunday brunches and the holiday events, there will be a variety of tasks required to organize and pull together the needed resources.

Say Yes: If you're ready to "say yes" to this role, or if you have additional questions, please reach out to Deacon Mark in the Church Office.

Tech Team Coordinator

What: We need a partner for Michael Pollard to help with the technology requirements and technology support for sound, slides and Zoom on Sunday mornings. The coordinator would become, with some training and orientation, the subject matter expert on all things techie on Sundays. The coordinator will recruit, train (as needed), and schedule the volunteers who staff the tech stations on Sunday morning. This role will require close coordination with Michael Pollard (or others leading worship) and with Deacon Mark in the Church Office.

When: We could use this help as soon as possible. Summertime would be a great season to slowly get acclimated to the technology environment at the Church and to work with Deacon Mark on a gradual handoff.

Time Commitment: Depending on the scope of your technology background, getting up to speed could be very easy or could require a little bit of time. Once up to speed, the weekly time requirements are fairly modest: to schedule the volunteers, to backfill when there are unexpected absences, to oversee the care and maintenance of the tech components in our systems, and to help with troubleshooting issues, as they arise.

Say Yes: If you're ready to "say yes" to this role, or if you have additional questions, please reach out to Deacon Mark in the Church Office.

Coordinator for 2022 Backpack Bash

What: HTAC is a regular participant in the COSILoveU/Mercy's Gate annual Backpack Bash to benefit disadvantaged kids who need backpacks and school supplies for the new school year. This coordinator will sprearhead HTAC's involvement with and response to this important local outreach program.

When: Mercy's Gate is just starting the processes for the 2022 campaign, so now would be a great time for us to connect them with our coordinator.Time Commitment: This is a limited engagement that ends just as school is beginning. It is not particularly labor-intensive, but mostly requires getting the word out to the congregation and pulling together volunteers to help with the collecting of supplies and the stuffing of backpacks.

Say Yes: If you're ready to "say yes" to this role, or if you have additional questions, please reach out to Deacon Mark in the Church Office.

And as always, if you need more information about any of these volunteer opportunities, please contact the Church Office at (719) 505-8021 or by email at office@holytrinityanglicanchurch.org.

FOREIGN LANGUAGE READERS NEEDED!

Special Reading of the Pentecost Story

It is a tradition at Holy Trinity to have a special reading of the story of Pentecost from the Book of Acts at each of our services on Pentecost Sunday.

Our special reading calls on the congregation to experience voices in as many different languages as we can gather, proclaiming the arrival and manifestation of the Holy Spirit in the disciples of Jesus through the speaking "in other tongues" as described in Acts, Chapter 2. In years past, we have had readers in French, Greek, German, Spanish, Czech, Afrikaans, Chinese. . .such a variety.

As of this morning, we have only 4 languages covered. If you are one who can read and speak a language other than English, would you be a part of our Pentecost reading?

Please reach out to Deacon Mark in the Church Office, so we can add you to the list of readers. We will need readers for both services on Pentecost Sunday, so please let Deacon Mark know which service (both would be ideal) you are available and which language you would like to read.

IMPORTANT REMINDER - No First Friday Evening Service

Please be aware: we are taking a summertime hiatus from the First Friday Evening services at Holy Trinity. Therefore, we will NOT have a service this coming Friday evening, June 3rd. Likewise, there will be no First Friday service in July, August and September. The First Friday rhythm will re-start in October.

If you have any questions about the summer schedule at Holy Trinity, please reach out to the Church Office.

Thursday Spotlight: 26 May 2022 - Summer Plans at HTAC

SUMMERTIME PLANS FOR HTAC in 2022

Summer is upon us! There are several new and exciting fellowship and discipleship opportunities available for individuals and families this summer. Here are three for your consideration and calendars:

Fox Run Playground Group - Wednesdays @ 10:30 AM, June 1 - Aug 10

Who: Kids of all ages and their caretakers (grandparents, moms, dads, sitters)
When: Wednesday Mornings @ 10:30 AM (stay as short or long as you like)

What: Bring your own snack or lunch (if you decide to stay longer) and any outdoor activities your kids enjoy.
Why: This group will be a consistent meetup for families over the summer to foster community and to be an outreach within the community. Come as you are able. It is open to anyone, anytime, even if you can only make it once. We look forward to deepening relationships while being visible and present regularly in the community. We hope that you will invite neighbors, co-workers or friends who are looking for community and/or are not currently a part of the church.Questions: If you have questions or need more information, please contact Kati Traylor.

Where: TBD, probably a home in Gleneagle
How: Read one chapter per week (averages 30 small-ish pages), attend every week, and let the group leader know if you can't make it.

Why: We invite women of the parish into spiritual fellowship and support through this study of Scripture.Questions: If you'd like to join or have questions, you can signup by contacting Laura Laurie.

Questions: If you are interested in Beyond Rescue or have questions, please reach out to Deacon Mark Summers.

A Special Concert Opportunity

Matthew Clark and the Sweet Ayres ~ Sunday, May 8 at 3:00 PM

Many of you will remember the quartet of musicians who played for the Compline service at Holy Trinity during Lent. These musicians, including Terri Moon (violin), Megan Prahl (harp), Greg Brown (bassoon and hammered dulcimer), and Nancy Brown (oboe, English horn and recorders) are joining with Matthew Clark, a wonderful singer-songwriter, for an afternoon concert of folk-style music that everyone will enjoy, especially mothers!

Tea and refreshments will be served, and Matthew will reveal several songs from his brand new album “Only the Lover Sings".

These musicians have been invited to perform at the C.S. Lewis “Oxbridge” Summer Institute this July and would love to have you come and see what they are taking on the road to Oxford! The concert is FREE, but space is limited so you do need to sign up for tickets ahead of time. The concert will be held in a private garden near downtown, but in the case of inclement weather, the concert will take place at Holy Trinity. Please click the link below to let them know you’re coming!

Another Concert Opportunity

On Saturday, May 7, the Soli Deo Gloria Community Choir will present a free concert at 3 PM, featuring the Faure Requiem and other eclectic offerings in honor of Dr. Robert Molisson.

The concert will be held at the First United Methodist Church on 420 North Nevada in Colorado Springs. Please come to enjoy this outstanding choral performance and to support this group that has been blessing the Colorado Springs community since 1973.

A New Women's Group @ HTAC

We are very excited to pass along the news that a new women's group will be forming in the coming weeks at HTAC.

This group will meet in the evenings for 8 weeks during summer months. With life groups possibly winding down for the summer, having a women's group during the summer seems an effective opportunity to invite women into fellowship together. The group will be open to all the women of the church, Monday evenings from 7:30-9:30 pm from June 13 - August 15. Meetings will be at the home of Laura Laurie, one of the organizers.

The plan is to engage the group in a Bible Study of the book of Hebrews and to spend time together in prayer. If you are interested, please reach out to the Church Office or connect with Laura Laurie or Lesli McMillan.

Dear Holy Trinity Family,

I want to very much invite you to participate in the Triduum! The what? Starting tonight through Sunday night is what has been called the Triduum. We ended Lent with a beautiful Stations of the Cross service, and for the next three days, we move from Lent into Easter season!

Each time of worship and engaging God in this way is unique and powerful.

Please keep reading and I hope to see you..

In Christ,

Maundy Thursday: April 14 at 6:30 pm

Maundy Thursday has 3 key elements:

(1) We focus on the Last Supper, from which flows our sacrament of Holy Communion.

(2) We pay special attention to Jesus’ act and command to wash one another’s feet. There will be a time to wash one another’s feet, if you desire.

(3) We begin an HTAC all-night vigil meant to reflect the vigil of those disciples who were called to wait and pray with Him in the Garden.

For the vigil we prepare a now-stripped-bare sanctuary with candles and reading and meditation resources. You can sign up for a one hour slot to be present at the church and “wait.” We have a system to keep the church locked when you are here, so it is safe. And, then a system to hand off when your hour is finished.

Some folks also sign up to pray from hour from home. That is great, too!

So, please respond to this email and let Mark know if you’d like to sign up for a slot either on site or at home.

Good Friday Noon Service: April 15 from Noon to 3 pm

From 12 noon until 3.00p, symbolizing the hours that Jesus was on the cross, we participate in a rich blend of music, prayers, poetry, readings, and brief meditations on of Christ’s “last words” offered by Holy Trinity clergy, staff, and others.

The three hours goes by quickly! Also, it is a service in which you can come and go as needed – no problem. It is different from our evening services and rich.

Good Friday Evening Services: April 15 at 6:30 pm and 8:00 pm - Childcare Available at both services

These spare, yet rich, services include a mediation on the large cross that we bring into the building. Just as a note, the kids really seem to ”get” this when they come and sit and touch the cross and pray and ask questions, or sit silently.

Also, we will, as we have for many years now, celebrate this with our brothers and sisters from Cathedral Rock church! This is always a profound experience together.

Easter Sunday April 17 - Services at 8:30 am & 10:45 am

Easter Egg Hunt at 10 am

This is the biggest day of the church year!

We celebrate the glorious resurrection of our Savior, Jesus Christ!

This is a day of joyful noise, including ringing bells! While we have some jingle bells and small cowbells that we provide, you are encouraged to bring a bell of your own for this exciting day of praise.

Real Needs; Real Opportunities to Make a Difference

Are you interested in helping refugee families in the Colorado Springs area make a strong and healthy transition to their new life in the United States? We are aware of several specific individuals who would benefit from time, expertise, and physical skills applied to their particular circumstances.

We have a number of current opportunities and connections, and we are developing others in our Refugee Ministry at HTAC. If you are interested in helping one of these individuals or in hearing more about other opportunities that may be arising, please reach out to the Church Office.

LENTEN FAST - Week 5

This week, we are fasting from social media.

Next week, we will be fasting from all beverages, other than water. Yikes! Choose to refrain from coffee, tea, alcohol and all other beverages (other than water). Pay attention to what happens when you deny yourself something you routinely enjoy. Seek to pray when you have the desire for the thing from which you are refraining.

With special music and a prayer-filled liturgy, we will set aside our Friday evening to quiet ourselves and to contemplate "the breadth and length and height and depth, and to know the love of Christ that surpasses knowledge, that you may be filled with all the fullness of God." (Ephesians 3:18)

Long-Range Praying and Planning Process

Between services on this coming Sunday, April 3, Pastor Matt will offer an overview briefing on the long-range planning process beginning in April. This process will involve some looking backwards to remember how God has formed and empowered Holy Trinity to love Him, one another and His world and an intentional looking ahead to how He might desire that we continue to glorify Him, and how He may call us to join Him in the restoration of His world. This will be an opportunity to hear directly from Pastor Matt on the overall plan and to ask questions about the process moving forward.

First Friday Service

On Friday, April 1 at 6:30 PM, we will have another First Friday evening service. This particular service will be the "contemplative" offering in our quarterly cycle of First Friday services. In January, the service was focused on a teaching component; in February, we had a praise and worship service. This third service in the cycle is an evening of contemplation and prayer, comprised of worshipful music, art, and prayer, wrapped in a "sung" Compline service. Please join us. This will be a powerful opportunity to connect with our Lord in anticipation of Holy Week and the celebration of Easter Sunday.
