Visit with Bishop Rucyahana

Please mark your calendars! Our dear friend and mentor, Bishop John Rucyahana from Rwanda will be visiting Colorado Springs during the week of September 12. We are still working out the details, but we anticipate having a reception at Holy Trinity on Tuesday evening, September 13, for the Bishop and his wife.

Bishop Rucyahana visited Holy Trinity a few years ago. His presence and his words of encouragement and inspiration were an amazing blessing to all who had the chance to meet him and hear him. Don't miss this opportunity!

More information to come; stay tuned.

Thursday Spotlight: 25 August 2022

It's Time for Another Hodge Podge

There are LOTS of big and little things we need to highlight. We'll be as brief as possible, but please look over this collection of reminders and opportunities. Each one is important.

Tuesday Morning Prayer Service

We host an online Morning Prayer service every Tuesday at 7 AM. This service is a wonderful way to start your day and an amazing connection with God early in the work week. The service lasts only about 15 minutes. Please join us! If you haven't combed your hair, or if you are in the middle of breakfast, feel free to keep your camera turned off, and join us anyway. The Zoom link for the service is listed on our website here: https://www.holytrinityanglican.church/zoom-links.

Sunday Service Participants Needed

As you have probably noticed, every Sunday members of our congregation participate in the Sunday service by reading Scripture, leading the Prayers of the People, serving as Chalice Bearers during Communion, and serving on the Prayer Team during Communion.

Our rosters of readers, pray-ers, and Chalice Bearers are a little depleted these days. If you are interested in participating in any of these roles, please reach out to Deacon Mark in the Church Office. We would love to add you to our rotation of volunteers. We will also give you instruction in any of the roles that you might not be familiar with.

There is a unique blessing in serving your Church family on Sunday mornings. Don't miss out on that blessing. Please consider becoming a part of the team that makes the Sunday services happen each week.

Save the date: Marriage Workshop

Mark your calendars and save the date for a special workshop entitled, "The Heart of Jesus in Marriage", co-sponsored by Pastor Al Janssen and his wife, Jo, and Deacon Mark Summers, and his wife, Christy.

The workshop will be held on a Friday evening and Saturday morning in February. We're currently looking at February 17th & 18th.

The heart of Jesus is God’s template for the heart of marriage: a heart that loves so deeply it seeks always the best for the other. It is a heart that acts out of devotion, not obligation. It is a heart that lovingly and freely chooses to care, to nurture, and to treasure, regardless of the cost.

This marriage workshop will be held just prior to the beginning of Lent 2023, focusing on the fundamentals of a strong marriage, as modeled through the love of Jesus and as reflected in Scripture. Our goal will be to describe the heart of Jesus and apply it to familiar marriage contexts, offering some new perspectives on how we can approach the relational challenges and opportunities in marriage out of a healthy and loving heart-space.

We will also set up a number of heart reflections for the Lenten season - reflections that will encourage us to consider how we’ve embraced (or not embraced) our marital relationship in the past, and to look forward to a relational resurrection and renewal with our spouse to accompany the resurrection and renewal celebrated in Easter.

Life Group Signups

We are getting things ready for the Fall Launch of our life groups at Holy Trinity. If you are not currently a part of a life group and are interested in participating in a life group community, please fill out this electronic form created by Pastor Chris Stroup: https://forms.gle/7oVVq4CJrQrLmQ587

Pastor Chris will be compiling the responses and matching people up with existing groups and will be creating new groups as needed. If you have questions or need additional information, please reach out to the Church Office.

Beyond Rescue 2022

Yes, Jesus rescues! Jesus also offers us more - so much more - than just a ticket to Heaven when we die.

"Come to me. Get away with me and you'll recover your life. I'll show you how to take a real rest. Walk with me and work with me - watch how I do it. Learn the unforced rhythms of grace. I won't lay anything heavy or ill-fitting on you. Keep company with me and you'll learn to live freely and lightly." (Matthew 11:28-30, from The Message by Eugene Peterson)

Do you struggle to live freely and lightly in the unforced rhythms of grace? Do your closest relationships, including your relationship with Jesus, suffer under the weight of unmet needs and unrealized expectations?

If so, perhaps now is the right time for you to experience Beyond Rescue. Beyond Rescue is a 12-week discipleship experience, designed to help individuals engage intentionally in their own developing story of redemption through deeper and more active relationship with Jesus. The discipleship experience is offered through Redeemed Seasons Ministries and will be hosted and led by Mark and Christy Summers.

Beyond Rescue offers a safe and supportive discipleship context in which we can begin to examine and understand our relational and/or sexual struggles and open ourselves to the redemptive work of the Holy Spirit to bring about healing of our wounded hearts and freedom from the bondage of unhealthy and disordered choices.

Book Drive for Refugee Children

We are still collecting children's books (for ages 0-9) for an Afghan refugee family in Colorado Springs.

Books are an invaluable part of learning our language and connecting with our community. If you would like to help these children in their transition to life in Colorado Springs, you are invited to bring new or gently used children's books to the Church this coming Sunday, July 3.

Amy Schulte will collect and inventory the donated books and arrange for delivery to the family.

Thank you!

Our Moons in Oxford

Does that title have you wondering, or do you already know?

If you don't already know, our own Steve and Terri Moon are traveling with the local musical group, The Sweet Ayres, to several C.S. Lewis events in England this summer. Here is a link to an excellent article on the Anselm Society website about this trip:

If you are interested in knowing more, please reach out to Terri or Steve. If you'd like to support them for this trip, the link to their GoFundMe support page is included in the article.

Help for 12,000 Students

The Backpack Bash is a citywide effort that seeks to provide access to all things back-to-school for thousands of families in need around El Paso County. This includes backpacks filled with essential school supplies, additional health services, and the opportunity to have fun as a family in a carnival style setting.

COSILOVEYOU is providing a number of ways that you can participate and support this campaign, including donating items, volunteering at assembly and distribution locations, and attending the big Bash events on July 30 and August 6.

HTAC's Part: As we have done the past few years, Holy Trinity will be participating in this important and powerful community effort. We will collect school supplies and backpacks between now and July 17 to contribute to the county-wide effort.

The COSILOVEYOU website includes a convenient list of needed items to help with your shopping. The Items Needed are listed here: https://backpackbash.com/donate-items/

Go shopping and bring your items to the Church. We will collect them between now and JULY 17 (a Sunday). On July 19, the final turn-in date, we will deliver all donated items to the Backpack Bash organizers, so they can put together the individual backpacks. Our collection and delivery effort is being led by Cindy Schaefer. If you have any questions, please reach out to her or to the Church Office.

We Need Drivers!!

We have a number of people in our Holy Trinity family who need a ride to Church on Sundays. Would you be willing to help?

Our riders are mostly among our more mature members, so lifted pickups and tiny sports cars won't work. But if you're coming to Church in a reasonable sedan or minivan or SUV, and you've got an empty seat and a few minutes for a quick side trip to pick up or drop off a Brother or Sister, we could certainly use your help.

If you are willing, please email or call Deacon Mark in the Church Office.

Refugee Working Group

Amy Schulte is still looking for 2 to 4 individuals for the Refugee Working Group to help coordinate our outreach activities to the local refugee communities.

The Working Group will meet after services on a Sunday in the near future, and likely, will meet only quarterly thereafter. Thus, the commitment is not big, but the need is very great. Would you step in? Reach out to Amy or to the Church Office if you are interested.

Refugee Book Drive

We are collecting new or gently used children's books for an Afghan family that recently relocated to the Colorado Springs area.

This extended family has 6 young children between the ages of 0 and 9 years old. The kids have no books, and thus, are struggling to learn English.

Do you have books that would bless these children? Please bring your age-appropriate children's books for donation to this family. We'll collect them this Sunday (and perhaps next), before delivering them to the family.

Book Drive for Refugee Children

As we continue to seek opportunities to care for refugees in our community, we are inviting our Church family to bless an Afghan family with books for their children.

The family we want to help consists of grandparents, 3 adult children with their spouses, 2 teen sons, and 6 grandkids! The youngest grandchild was just born in April.

This extended family is one of the first Afghan refugee families to arrive in Colorado Springs, and they have been hard at work learning English and building a life here.

We recently asked one of the children if they have any books, and the answer was "No!"

Books are an invaluable part of learning our language and connecting with our community. If you would like to help these children in their transition to life in Colorado Springs, you are invited to bring new or gently used children's books to the Church this coming Sunday, June 26. Age ranges for the children run from 0 to 9 years old.

Amy Schulte will collect and inventory the donated books. Once we have a good assortment, we would love to have one or two women from the congregation accompany Amy to deliver the gifts.

If you'd like to participate in the delivery, please connect with Amy or with Deacon Mark.

Thank you!
